How Self Love benefits Others too

One of the objections or fears that clients express to me about learning to love themselves is that it may make them selfish or even narcissistic. Actually it’s quite the opposite.

When we fill up our inner love bank, we have extra love to give to others. In contrast if our inner love bank is empty or running low we may find we have little to give. It is in everybody’s interest for us all to learn to be our our own best friend, to be as kind and caring with ourselves as we are with those we love.

Here is a list of 20 ways that learning to love ourselves can directly benefit other people:

  1. Improved communication and understanding in relationships.

  2. Increased ability to provide emotional support and empathy for others.

  3. Greater ability to be a positive role model for others.

  4. Improved ability to resolve conflicts in a healthy way.

  5. Increased ability to set boundaries and take care of one's own needs.

  6. Greater ability to listen and offer constructive feedback to others.

  7. Improved ability to be open and honest with others.

  8. Increased ability to forgive others and let go of resentment.

  9. Greater ability to show gratitude and appreciation for others.

  10. Improved ability to offer encouragement and support for others' goals.

  11. Increased ability to collaborate and work well with others, we become better team workers.

  12. Greater ability to be present and fully engaged interacting with others.

  13. Improved ability to be a supportive and nurturing parent.

  14. Increased ability to be a good friend and maintain healthy friendships.

  15. Greater ability to be a strong and supportive partner in a romantic relationship.

  16. Improved ability to be a good listener and provide emotional support in times of need.

  17. Increased ability to be a positive influence on others and help them to grow and develop, even at the very least by being a good example.

  18. Greater ability to be a supportive and understanding colleague at work.

  19. Improved ability to be a positive and encouraging mentor or coach to others.

  20. Increased ability to contribute to a positive and healthy community.
